Amery Vineyard Hillside Shiraz
Wine
Kay Brothers Amery Vineyard Hillside Shiraz is from the winery's Hillside Vineyard, established in 1992 with cuttings from the 1892 Block 6. It draws on two sites – Block 11 and New Block 6 – to assemble the best possible blend.
Block 11 is located at the top of a hill and tends to produce fruit with intense flavours and bold tannins. Farther down the hill, the New Block 6 grapes contribute savoury notes and a tightly structure – finesse to counterpoint Block 11's power.
After open fermentation the wine is gently basket pressed in a traditional 1928 press, resulting in softer tannins. It then matures over 20 months in a mix of American and French oak barrels.
Deep ruby, Kay Brothers Amery Vineyard Hillside Shiraz is a full bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz with rich dark berries and underlying earthiness. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
